Although Kevin Lane was raised among the criminal underworld and had a history of using his fists, he is still firm to deny ever killing anybody. The Crowns case is based soley off of speculation and a fingerprint found on a bin liner. Kevin was never picked out on any identification parades, never directly linked forensically, and had no link to the victim.

The main officer in Kevin's case was DC Spackman a man who had earlier arrested Kevin on an unrelated matter and told him, "one day he'd have him". Spackman has since been convicted of corruption and jailed for four years. He was the epicentre of Kevin's case. He dealt with crucial witnesses, bank transactions, and exhibits. Lying on oath, trying to prevent a WPC from giving her evidence (because it went against the Crown's case) and making false statements are just a few of his main traits.

The evidence against Kevin was a bin liner found in the boot of a car. Allegedly, Kevin's fingerprints were found on this bin liner, after he was arrested. Infact, Kevin's fingerprints were taken twice, but for some reason the police only declared taking his prints once. The bin liner was stored at the local police station during Kevin's arrest; they had been in possesion of this bin liner 3 months before Kevin was arrested. Why then did it take a further 3 months to charge Kevin?

Kevin had two trials, the first being with co-defendant Mr Vincent. In the first trial the prosecution presented the case that Kevin was the gunman and Vincent was there to identify the victim. The evidence on both men was exactly the same. In the first trial Vincent was found not guilty, on the direction of the Judge. The Jury failed to reach a verdict on Kevin and so a retrial was ordered. The second trial an unanimous verdict could not be reached, so they decided a guilty verdict with only the majority in favor.
